Its been 4 days since surgery and i seem to be recuperating well. I am spending most of my time sleeping and taking pain meds. I am shivering freezing at the same time sweating profusely. Meds mess you up! My rehab is basically breathing exercises and some minor walking. While the hospital stay up to this point had been suburb, this post op ward is horrific. The staff is terrible, no one is in charge and the left and right dont know whats going on. No one takes responsibility for anything. The standard answer from all staff here is,”im sorry” and then they walk out. Id be better off being home. It looks like i will get to go home on monday, if all goes well. Ive had 4 chest tubes and two feeding into my heart through the cartaroid artery removed. There is a wire through my chest to the heart still protruding through my chest. Its a safety thing that if they had too, could jump start my heart if i had problems. That will be the last thing they remove before i go home.
Visiting hours are 8-8 but really anytime as long as it isn’t around a shift change, which is 7 or 7. So anything other than 6-8 in the morning or evenings.
Im not sure what my needs will be, but im sure help with some basics, cooking, cleaning, laundry etc will be necessary upon my return home. It’s a fluid thing changing by the day.
